"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" director James Gunn is hard at work to deliver a sequel that would far exceed the first film. Also, he's been updating fans on what to expect in the sequel.
First up, he said that his Vol. 2 will be a standalone film that won't lead to any big movie like the "Infinity Wars" saga. He said that this will focus on the lives of the heroes who are part of the team and how they came to be.
"Everything's going to be different in the 'Infinity Wars.' I'm a lot more concerned with 'Vol. 2' than I am with 'Infinity Wars.' The way the movie ['Vol. 2'] is structured and made - it really is a story unto itself. It's not about leading up to anything else. It's about the Guardians and their lives", Gunn said via The Hollywood Reporter.
Meanwhile, Chris Pratt, who plays the lead role Star-Lord, is ecstatic when he heard Gunn's pitch and he can't wait for fans to get a glimpse on the new movie.
"What I will say is that [Gunn's] pitch and his ideas legitimately put tears in my eyes. It is so good, it's so good. I can not wait to get started on it and I cannot wait for people to see what he's going to pull off with this second movie. It's so big and so good," Pratt told Digital Spy.
"From what I understand, Marvel [heard Gunn's pitch] and they said nothing. [It] was that perfect. There was no micromanaging of the idea. They just love it so much they didn't have any notes for it. It's going to be remarkable."
Also, the spotlight will also be focused on the siblings, Gamora and Nebula as actress Karen Gillian told Comic Book Resources that their relationship will be given an emphasis.
"I think what I'm really excited about it delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula," she remarked. "I think that we're going to see a little bit more of that, and it's going to be a bit more fleshed out."
