It's been a big year for SM Entertainment as their groups managed to take home several awards at 2015 end of year music awards shows and bring the label profits up 22.5% from its 2014 numbers.
It appears that even though it is close to the end of the year, SM Entertainment has no intention of slowing down its success.
According to reports, SM Entertainment K-pop groups EXO and SHINee have made Japan's Oricon top 10 chart for 2015 foreign album sales. Following the success of American artists like Taylor Swift and Maroon 5, EXO and SHINee took the 6 and 7 spots on the list since releasing their albums in Japan.
Notably, EXO and SHINee are the only artists from Korea to make the Oricon Top 10 Foreign album list, suggesting that SM Entertainment has continued to gain international attention for its artists. In fact, earlier this year, an SM Entertainment official explained that thanks to their groups promotions, the company's profits in China increased significantly this year.
"Thanks to the hard work of our various artists including TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, SHINee, f(x), EXO, and Red Velvet, our sales in China have sharply increased by 114% from last year," said an SM Entertainment representative in August.
Koreaboo reports that EXO earned its 6 spot with 51,937 of their "EXODUS" album sold since its release in April 2015. Meanwhile, SHINee was ranked number 7 with 38,178 of their "Odd" album sold since their May 2015 release.
The number one foreign album on the list was the "Fast & Furious 7" soundtrack which was released in April and sold 160,104 albums. The rest of the list includes successful international artists such as One Direction, and Adele. Adele's album sales were so quickly impressive that she made the list at number 8, only having released her album in Japan on Nov 20.
Both EXO's second album "EXODUS" and SHINee's "Odd" album are available on iTunes.
