The Washington Wizards have been rumored to look into trading for New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony as a back up plan to signing Kevin Durant.
According to Zach Lowe of espn.com, the Knicks should already start looking into building the team around top pick Kristaps Porzingis.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the New York Knicks top pick in the 2015 NBA draft has enjoyed being in the pressure-packed city of New York and the city has loved him back. After being booed when drafted, Knicks fans have been very passionate in displaying their love for the prized rookie.
"The first day I got drafted, I felt the fans were really passionate about basketball and there was going to be a lot of pressure," the rookie said. "I knew that, but I wanted to be in New York because I love pressure. I knew we could do big things here in the future. If you can succeed in New York, you can succeed anywhere."
The well-known trainer Joe Abunassar talked about Porzingis' work ethic and potential. "His culture is basketball," said Abunassar.
"What he does at night is basketball," he added. "He trains in the morning and shoots extra at night. Whether you're in Seville, Spain, New York or Vegas, when you talk about the cultural differences, he's not much of a, 'Hey, let's go experience the culture.' It's. 'Let's go to the gym.' If you keep your culture tight like that, it's easy to adjust."
With Porzingis set to be the team's new franchise player, experts believe that Anthony could be expendable. The Wizards would be seen as a perfect destination for Anthony as he has close ties with Maryland and would be an ideal fit with John Wall and Bradley Beal.
If the Wizards feel that signing Kevin Durant next offseason would be unlikely, they could look into trading Nene, Otto Porter, and two first-round draft picks for the Knicks forward.
