The release date of "Narcos" season 2 might be several months from now, but the highly-acclaimed series is generating a lot of buzz after being recently nominated for next year's Golden Globe awards.
The Netflix original crime-drama joined other top nominees for best TV drama series which included "Empire," "Game of Thrones, and " "Mr. Robot," reported the Los Angeles Times.
The 73rd Golden Globes, which will be held on Jan. 10, will be giving out the much-coveted award to winners in 25 categories composed of 14 films and 11 television shows.
According to Netflix Life, "Narcos" was one of the biggest releases on Netflix for this year after the critically-acclaimed series made its television debut last Aug. 28.
Created by Chris Brancato, Eric Newman and Carlo Bernard, the show features the exploits of Colombian czar Pablo Escobar who has been credited as the brains behind the notorious Medellin Cartel
The true-to-life series not only delves on the drug cartel's involvement in the drug trade in Colombia and the United States, but also the group's links with terrorism activities, as well as the local and American government's interventions.
"Narcos" season 1 had 10 episodes, while "Narcos" season 2 is anticipated to have 10 episodes which may be rolled out at around the same time the first season premiered.
The show's nomination for Golden Globe's for Best Drama Series also came with a bonus, as its lead star Wagner Moura nominated for Best Actor for his outstanding portrayal as Pablo Escobar.
"Moura perfectly captures all of Escobar's qualities in a powerful performance that shows off his charisma, sense of humor, determination, foresight, passion, intimidation, fear tactics and unflinching confidence," Netflix Life said.
"Narcos" also has an exceptional supporting cast which includes Boyd Holbrook who plays DEA agent Steve Murphy, and Pedro Pascal who portrays the former's partner Javier Pena.
The two DEA agents' mission is to travel to Columbia and utilize all means necessary to bring down, if not eliminate, Escobar and his men.
"Narcos" season 2 is expected to follow the tradition of its precursor which means lots of action, dynamic dialogue, and enough suspense that will keep viewers at the edge of their seats.
