Red Velvet Help Engage New Generation Of Humanitarians As New Red Cross Youth Ambassadors

One K-pop girl group are trying to get young people involved in important global causes.

On Jan. 29, the members of Red Velvet were officially appointed as ambassadors for Red Cross Youth at a ceremony held in Seoul.

As ambassadors of the Red Cross Youth, the Red Velvet members will promote the importance of being a good samaritan to elementary, high school, and college students.

Being a Red Cross Youth member entails taking part of activities "focused on volunteerism, basic health awareness, social inclusion and global interaction" as well as education, "including education about the Movement," according to Red Cross Korea.

However, the partnership between the Red Cross and Red Velvet's agency, SM Entertainment, is nothing new. The record label has had a partnership with Red Cross Korea since 2011 with various SM artists active in humanitarian campaigns and serving as ambassadors for the Red Cross Youth in Korea.

Last year, the members of EXO-K were appointed Red Cross ambassadors.
