INTRO TO K-POP: “Actually, it was the movie ‘The Commitment’ with T.O.P. I went to IMDB, checked on him, and ta-da - I found K-pop. But the first songs that got me into [K-pop] were HOTSHOT’s ‘Watch Out,’ 24K’s ‘Hey Girl,’ and LU:KUS’s ‘So Into You.’”
THE DIFFERENCE: “The K-pop machinery is faster. And it’s also wasted faster. You can train like a lion but still never succeed, which is pretty sad. But all of the idols are passionate about their music and I think they work much harder than other top stars around the globe. They have to accomplish everything by themselves and work as a team. I think that is what makes it special. So many different individuals creating music. Lovely!"
CULTURAL MISUNDERSTANDINGS: “Oh boy. This would go beyond the scope [of this interview]. I think the main reason is the language…”
YOUR ART: “Music helps me to cope with any problems or emotions. Since I was very sick and fighting cancer back in 2015, K-pop helped me a lot. And, let’s be honest, the idols are attractive as hell. Both female and male. So it was just fun to draw them. I do a lot of giveaways on my Instagram, so I probably make a lot of fans happy. And that’s what makes me happy.”
TIPS FOR NEW K-POP ARTISTS: “Just go for it. Don’t listen to people who tell you that you can’t. Just show them you can. Be creative and never surrender!!!”
FAVORITE GROUP: LU:KUS
WHY LU:KUS: “I was obsessed with them and tried not to follow them any longer, but… True love never dies. They are just amazing, they are not fake. They are great performers and they have the best singer/vocalist, Choi Seok Hoon”
FAVORITE SONG: “Break Ya”
FAVORITE SOLO ARTIST: “I can’t name you one. There are a few. I like Jessi a lot.”
FAVORITE SONG: “Sseununni”
