GFriend Are The 'Youngest' K-Pop Girl Group With A Number 1 Single

Looks like a lot of people are in love with GFriend!

The six-member K-pop act are the first girl group that debuted between 2013-2016 to have a No. 1 ranked hit single in South Korea, cementing the group's position as rookies with huge amounts of future potential.

Just eleven months after their debut with "Glass Bead," GFriend are the first rookie girl group from the past three years to reach the number one spot on the Gaon digital chart with their latest single "Rough."

"Rough" has beaten out songs from veteran artists, including Taeyeon's "Rain" and "No Matter Where" by M.C the Max. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that "Rough" was released on Jan. 24, nearly a month ago. In comparison, "Rain" was released on Feb. 2 and "No Matter Where" was released on Jan. 27.

The previous group obtain the No. 1 spot on weekly Gaon rankings was EXID, whose song "Up Down" snagged the coveted spot in the first week of 2015.

"Rough," which is off GFriend's third EP, previously recorderd another monumental achievement, by securing a "perfect all-kill" in on Feb. 7, when it ranked No. 1 on all 8 online music charts: Melon, Mnet, Bugs, Olleh music, Soribada, Genie, Naver music, and Monkey3.

Gaon is essentially Korea's Billboard chart, which ranks the popularity of songs in Korea on weekly, monthly, and yearly bases.
