Thai-natives were in for a treat on Valentine's Day as SM Entertainment's very own SM Rookies held a 90-minute concert at Muang Thai GMM Live House Central in Thailand.
Considering that the group hasn't officially debuted, SM Rookies are already a success with their first overseas show selling out within five minutes and having fans crowd the airport upon their arrival.
The members of SM Rookies performed 20 song covers including TVXQ's "Hug" and EXO's "Call Me Baby."
In addition, according to the Korea Herald, 200 members of the press from Thailand's top news corporations were in attendance to cover the concert's press conference and performance.
The SM Rookies are a group of trainees under South Korea's largest entertainment agency and are expected to be part of the company's upcoming "unlimited" idol project NCT, or Neo Culture Technology.
The goal of NCT is to localize K-pop to the world, with separate units performing in different languages and created in collaboration with local music companies. The format is similar to Japanese pop acts AKB48 and SKE48, that have rotating, unlimited amounts of members that perform at local theaters, bringing the musicians to the audiences on a schedule rather than just occasional concerts.
Judging by the enthusiastic response in Thailand, K-pop fans around th world can expect exciting new things from the SM Rookies and their upcoming endeavor.
