George R.R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" plot will not be spoiled by "Game of Thrones" season 6.
Speaking to EW, showrunner David Benioff revealed that fans of the author's hit fantasy novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" don't need to worry about spoilers for George R.R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" plot in the upcoming "Game of Thrones" season 6.
The publication noted that showrunners Benioff and Dan Weiss met with the highly-acclaimed author to discuss the "Winds of Winter" plot. Although there will be similarities in the stories, the coming events in the TV series is said to be "very different from the books."
"People are talking about whether the books are going to be spoiled - and it's really not true," Benioff said. "So much of what we're doing diverges from the books at this point."
"And while there are certain key elements that will be the same, we're not going to talk so much about that - and I don't think George is either. People are going to be very surprised when they read the books after the show. They're quite divergent in so many respects for the remainder of the show."
IBT reported that Martin has previously announced in his Live Journal that there will be no spoilers for the "Winds of Winter" plot in "Game of Thrones" season 6. "Look, I never thought the series could possibly catch up with the books, but it has," the author wrote.
"The show moved faster than I anticipated and I moved more slowly... For years my readers have been ahead of the viewers. This year, for some things, the reverse will be true."
"So when you ask me, 'will the show spoil the books,' all I can do is say, 'yes and no,' and mumble once again about the butterfly effect... Some of the 'spoilers' you may encounter in season six may not be spoilers at all... because the show and the books have diverged, and will continue to do so."
