‘Manus X Machina’: Will The Retail Collection Be Successful In The Fashion World?

The fashion world is abuzz with the news of the success of "Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology" exhibition. This retail collection is expected to do well among the patrons.

Olivia Kim is the Nordstrom VP of creative projects had given a great start to this event. "Museums are so precious, and they're these incredible places as inspiration," Kim told Vogue.com. "And when I think about museum shops, they're always my favorite thing. Whenever I go into any museum, I always want to go into the gift shop first! And then I'm like, 'No, that has to be the dessert at the end.' I wasn't really thinking about it intellectually, I was just like, 'What are some fun things I would want to see in a museum shop?' "

''The Costume Institute's spring 2016 exhibition, presented in the Museum's Robert Lehman Wing, will explore how fashion designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear'' reported metmuseum.org.

Many celebrities had attended this opening gala. "It was an introduction through Anna [Wintour]," said Kim beaming with joy at the event. "I love the idea of museum shops, they are really my favorite things about going to a museum... In partnership with them, we helped to coordinate and curate some exclusive pieces and introduce them to some of my favorite designers."

Fashionista reported about the exhibition in details and mentioned that '' Marques Almeida, Hussein Chalayan, Paskal and Simone Rocha, who all contributed pieces inspired by or complementary to the hand and machine techniques highlighted in the exhibit.''

"I thought about some of my favorite designers that I felt were doing really great examples of those works, and then we introduced them to the Met Store to see if we could do some exclusive stuff," said Kim. "From Marques Almeida we have a top that's sheer with all these bright feathers on it, which I think that they do so well in a very non-traditional way," she clarified further.

Observer talked in details about this year's Met Gala. The gift shop too was curated to be in sync with the "Manus x Machina" exhibit. "The exhibition store is always one of my favorite parts of visiting the Museum - it's the cherry on top of an inspiring and beautiful exhibit. Manus x Machina showcases the wow elements of fashion, and as the last touch point of your experience the store is a way for visitors to take home a piece of what we saw," said Kim while talking about the store.

So what kind of response the fashion world has to this venture?
