tvN drama "Goblin" which has official working title "Guardian" has dethroned "Legend of the Blue Sea" from the top of the CPI ratings. The CPI measures integrated components of viewers engagements to the television program, including search ratings and buzz.
According to Asia Today, the first week of December CPI ratings show the new tvN drama "Guardian" or "Goblin" has scored a very high rating. Its score is sufficient enough to dethrone "Legend of the Blue Sea" from top position which acquired last week.
"Guardian" scored 302.8 points, much higher than the 256 points accumulated by the "Legend of the Blue Sea." The score tallied by the SBS drama declined 25.3 points from last week result scoring 256 points this week. SBS variety show "Running Man" which took second place last week had its position and dropped pretty far..
MBC singing competition show "The King of Mask Singer" ranked 3rd with 236.7 points according to Yonhap News Agency. While another SBS drama "Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim" was losing 11.2 points and dropped to 4th place from last week third position, scoring 223.9.
"Guardian" has drawn very big attention from viewers in either Korea and international. Many factors have made the drama to be captivating. Three main factors make the drama so successful.
First one is its originality. Different than "Legend of the Blue Sea" which was criticized for lack of originality, "Goblin" or "Guardian" has a fresh theme. Its writer Kim Eun-Sook and director Lee Eung-Bok are the ones behind the success of "Descendants of the Sun."
The second one is its cast members. Gong-Yoo and Lee Dong-Wook have many female fans which are waiting for them to return to the TV screen. While for a male audience, female cast Kim Go-Eun and Yoo In-Na has given enough reason for them to watch the drama.
Finally, the third factor is "Goblin" or "Guardian" is the first Korean drama which used technique normally used for shooting the movie with anamorphic lens camera.
