EXID Re-uploads ‘Up & Down’ MV After Controversy

EXID's "Up & Down" Chinese version is literally up and down on YouTube as Banana Culture re-uploaded it after some controversies.

Soompi has reported that on January 12, EXID's agency Banana Culture has addressed the issues regarding the music video of the Chinese version of "Up &Down". They have removed the original video after some Chinese citizens has find it problematic.

Banana Culture has explained, "We have re-edited and uploaded the music video after it was judged that there was a problem with it. We determined that a scene where it was filmed in a set similar to the Forbidden City could deem as problematic by the domestic (Chinese) audience, so we have deleted this part."

"While originally filming, we consulted with the Chinese staff to make sure it would be acceptable. Although we did not receive a complaint [about the scene] right after the music video was uploaded, we decided it would be best to edit it regardless, taking into account potential problems in the future."

According to Allkpop, it has been three days before the replacement of the initial upload of the original music video happened.

It was because of the Chinese media outlets. They pointed that the EXID members wearing qipao-like attire while dancing in front of what appears to be the former imperial palace in Beijing seems a bit offensive. Many of them also pointed that the members wearing "too revealing" attire while sitting on royal thrones is wrong.

Banana Culture has also clarified that all of the architecture, furniture, and backgrounds in the music video were just a part of a filming set and not actual monuments, buildings, or structures.

Previously, a Chinese news outlet on January 11 reported that the music video was halted and postponed because the scene was not in accordance with the law.

On the other hand, fans are not really happy with the music video. Most of them think it is sloppy and low-budgeted.
