Good news for Blackjacks and fans of Sandara Park. Her first crowdfunded movie "One Step" is set to hit theaters this April and this early, fans are already excited to see how the former 2NE1 member will perform in the musical drama loosely patterned after Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo's "Begin Again."
According to a report by Jakarta Post, the film will feature Sandara Park in her first leading role in a movie after appearing in several well performing web series like "Dr. Ian," "Missing Korea," and "We Broke Up." In "One Step," she will play the role of a girl named Si-hyun, a singer who loses her memory after an accident and sees sounds in color. She also sings an incomplete melody in her sleep.
Actor Han Jae Suk will play failed songwriter Jee Il who will help Si-hyun regain her memories by helping her complete the song in her mind. The movie will also serve as Han's comeback as his last movie "Speed Angels" was released way back in 2011 while his last drama "Witch's Romance" aired on tVN in 2014.
The film comes with a lot of high hopes as it is the first major project for Sandara Park after the break up of 2NE1 last year. The film also came to fruition due to crowdfunding efforts via Open Trade and actually met 50 percent of its goal in the first two hours. The actual crowdfunding goal of 100 million won was achieved only in one day as a testament to the strong support behind Sandara Park and the production team behind "One Step."
According to Variety, Finecut, an indie sales company has already secured the rights to distribute "One Step." The film has high potential for box office success and critical acclaim as it is helmed by Juhn Jai-hong, a director who was hailed for his debut feature in the Berlin Film Festival in 2008 entitled "Beautiful."
The film is produced by MCC entertainment, an outfit better known for its successful production of soundtracks for television dramas like Jewel in the Palace. For more Kpop news, check out Kpopstarz.
