Will BTS Really Change Its Name To BTX?

Is BTS seriously considering changing their name to BTX? Rumors are rife that the phenomenal K-pop idol group is poised to change their name in order to reach out to a wider global market with a more hip hop sounding vibe.

It can be recalled that a report by Digital Music Times first broke the news that Big Hit Entertainment was ready to make the announcement after meeting with members Rap Monster, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, J-Hope, Suga and V to get their consent on the move. According to the publication's source, a Big Hit Entertainment insider, the boys were divided over the move.

The rappers Rap Monster, Jimin, J-Hope and Suga were reportedly in favor of the move but Jin , Jungkook and V were still on the fence over the major change. The label reportedly wanted to change BTS to BTX because it gave the group an edgier feel. The leaked statement explained: "BTS was the first stage of this important group. Now, we're proud to welcome the entire world to the next phase of our growth."

Plans were even laid out for merchandise. According to the report, fans will be allowed to keep their BTS merchandise until the final leg of The Wings tour but future events will only recognize merchandise with the official BTX logo on them. The announcement was supposed to be made by BTS during their final show in the US in Anaheim, California. However, there has been no reports of announcements made during the sold out show.

Reports are now surfacing that the leaked announcement may have been a prank set for April Fools' Day. It was, after all April 1 when the report came out online. Until an official announcement is made by Big Hit Entertainment, fans should not panic about the rumored change, The Standard reported.
