Bonus Baby Criticized For Lolita Outfit Concept After Performing ‘If I Become An Adult’ On ‘Music Bank’

Bonus Baby has only been months in the industry, yet the rookie group has already swept up controversy. Upon their performance on KBS "Music Bank", the girl group composed of teenage girls got criticized for allegedly exposing Lolita concept.

On May 12, Bonus Baby performed its hit single "If I Become An Adult" on "Music Bank", Soompi reported. The girls wore a white blouse with baby bibs on it and mini pink skirt. Right after the group finished the performance, viewers immediately addressed their inconvenience to the "Music Bank" production team for the group's stage outfit, which was considered promoting Lolita concept especially with the bibs.

However, there are still people who think the concept wasn't even referring to Lolita concept. Those who opposed the opinion think that the bibs simply an element that needed to be included in the concept for the sake of relevance in their group's name and "If I Become An Adult" performance. However, they admitted that the bibs looked sort of obnoxious especially when it comes to staging performance.

According to Allkpop, people who opposed Lolita concept often associate it with the critically acclaimed, yet disturbing 1955 novel with the same name. However, that doesn't mean anything related to childlike materials or behaviors can be associated with Lolita. K-Pop celebrities like Sulli, IU, Red Velvet and Tiny-G's Dohee were used to be bashed because of this.

Bonus Baby, which was dubbed as Kim Jong Kook's Little Sister Group, made its debut on January 1, 2017, with the single "We". The group consists of 6 girls between the average ages of 16-17 years old. Bonus Baby's eldest two eldest members were originally from another group on the same label which disbanded in late 2016. Bonus Baby got help from other celebrities under the same label, Maroo Entertainment, like Kim Jong Kook, Supernova, Ha Seok Jin, and Kim Yeonji on their debut promotion.
