On November 20, the male artist sat down for an interview to talk about his recently released album. During the talks, he said, "The reason I labeled the album as such because the time I announced my English album launching, many people asked me if I was getting into the US market. Instead of an excellent beginning, it's just finding the taste. I think this is the part where you can say that I'm on the starting line."
Eric Nam then explained his album's title track "Congratulations," which he created almost a year ago. He revealed that he usually produces songs in Los Angeles whenever he would have free time to do so.
Eric added that he finds the English word "Congratulations" more comfortable to use rather than its Korean term, which could be an awkward part if included in the song. The idol also opened up about the other song in his album, titled "Love Die Young." He shared that he was the one who wrote its lyrics and made it when he was coming up against hardships that affected him physically and emotionally. He further stated that he wrote "Love Die Young" when his stamina was at its lowest level.
Eric Nam stated, "the song may appear like it's about love but if you read between the lines, it's really about life." "Before We Begin" is Eric Nam's fifth release using the English language. Back in June 2016, he launched his first US single titled "Into You," which is a collaboration song with electronic band KOLAJ. Six months later, he released another English track called "Body," featuring Timbaland, a Grammy award-winning producer.
In 2017, Eric Nam teamed up with EPIK HIGH's Tablo and Gallant on the song "Cave Me In," which was trending worldwide on YouTube and Facebook for more than three days after its release. And in June 2018, Eric launched the song "FLOAT," in which he participated in writing the lyrics along with the producer Kool Kojak. Furthermore, "Before We Begin" is the second release of Eric Nam this year, following his Korean digital single "Runaway."
Apart from "Congratulations" and "Love Die Young," the album also consists the track "No Shame," which is the English rendition of his previously launched Korean song "Honestly," as well as the English version of "Runaway."Eric Nam made his solo debut in 2013 with his first extended play called "Cloud 9," featuring the title track "Heaven's Door."
