Anxiety Disorder: Battle Between Korean Idols

The start of the year is unfortunate for some K-pop fans, following the pulling out of some of their idols from their planned group or solo activities due to anxiety. Giving them enough time to be cured and to rest is not a bit of a problem; instead, they deserve it a lot. Though it's sad to know that due to the pressure of the crowd and the entertainment industry, idols were undergoing this disorder which they don't deserve.

In 2019, there were some of the idols that had this mental illness because of the Korean standards and hate comments which led them to feel anxious when performing or standing in a group of people such as Kang Daniel, TWICE Mina, SEVENTEEN S.coups, and WJSN Dawon, who were diagnosed with anxiety disorder and stopped them from working.

And even if it's 2020, the news was still coming wherein this disorder is eating some Korean idols, which is affecting them tremendously.

On the 8th of January, LOONA's Haseul announced that she was unable to participate in their new album due to health problems. Her agency stated that "We decided to focus on treatment and recovery, considering that health was the top priority, rather than continuing the schedule in the event of repeated psychological anxiety."

In addition to this news, MONSTA X Juheon also reveals that he will be halting from his future activities in the last 12th of January, because of the same case. Starship Entertainment released its official statement saying, "Recently, Juheon has undergone overhaul and treatment at multiple medical institutions for complaints of psychological anxiety." Afterward, the male idol was then diagnosed and advised to rest for further treatment.

Moreover, last 13th of January, OH MY GIRL Jiho's agency WM Entertainment released their statement regarding the current mental health of the female idol. The official then said, "Jiho has been receiving medical treatment for frequent health deterioration and psychological anxiety since the second half of last year. However, as the anxiety worsens recently, it has been difficult to digest a normal schedule."

Other idols as well, including Girls' Generation Taeyeon and TWICE Jihyo, the leader of each group has been open to their depression. This mental problem of K-pop idols has been getting serious, and it is best to understand that as a netizen, it is not right to take this lightly as well as call them names such as "Lunatic" and "hallucinating."

According to Dr. Park Jong Seok, a doctor from Yonsei Bom Psychiatry and Shinhwa's Kim Dong wan, as most idols were having their debut at a very young age, they are vulnerable to anxiety and unstable mind due to the competition and worried to their future.

Most K-pop idols enter their agency as a trainee at the age of 12 to 18, the age wherein one should be appropriately guided and should experience the positive side of the world. However, instead, they experience competition, lack of sleep, overtraining, strict eating diet, and should pass the beauty standards to receive love from their fans.

Through this alarming situation, not that agency should severe their focus on their idol's mental and physical health but as well as to improve their mechanism on protecting their idols from hate comments and rumors, which is one of the cause as well of this disorder.

On the other hand, as a fan, the best thing to help is to extend love to your idols rather than spreading hatred to other idols and fandoms.
