Korean Idols That have Mental illness: Bipolar Disease & Panic Disorder

Due to the pressure of the overwhelming popularity of K-pop, being sick is inevitable, primarily due to the intense training for concerts, performances, and albums. Not to mention an idol's individual activities such as interview, guesting, and other schedules where rest and time for relaxation are nowhere to be seen, added by the hate comments and bullying they can encounter as they cannot please everyone.

However, there are some k-pop idols that even before their successful career, they were already suffering from their illness, which is making it harder for them to overcome the competition in the entertainment industry.

In this matter, here are some of the Korea idols who had an illness while being a successful K-pop idols/

1. Lee Joon (MBLAQ)

Lee Joon is a former member of the second generation group MBLAQ (which is now disbanded) and is now taking his career as an actor, has been diagnosed with bipolar disease or manic disease. He used to have a panic attack, and his mood can swing often.

It has been reported that during his military service, Lee Joon was an active officer not until he was downgraded as a reserve force due to having panic attacks often.

He has been receiving treatment and, with the help of his girlfriend, Jung So Min, who is also a well-known actress, he is getting better.

2. Singer-Actor Jang Geun Suk

Singer and actor Jang Geun Suk, who has been popular for drama "He's Beautiful" and "Love, Rain" with Im Yoona, confessed that he was suffering from the bipolar disease since 2011. Lat 2018, before his military service, his agency released an official statement saying,

"Jang Geun Suk is set to be a level 4 soldier due to having a bipolar disease when undergoing the physical examination from the Military Manpower Administration. He will begin his military duties when enlisting on July 16. Following this, he plans on being a public service worker for two years."

3. WINNER Nam Tae Hyun

The former member of the male idol group once confessed last 2016 that he was suffering from eating disorder and bipolar disorder through a live video streaming. He also said that he had a hard time controlling his anger and emotions, though, through the person who was supporting him and encouraging him, he is slowly overcoming it.

4. BLOCK B P.O.

The idol and actor who was loved after "Hotel Del Luna" starring I.U. and Yoo Jin Goo for being the happy energy and exciting chemistry with Gugudan Mina has been diagnosed with stress induces schizophrenia that caused him to be hospitalized last 2012. However, the condition was not critical, and it was due to the weight and shock after the controversy their group has faced during that year.

Despite their mental illness, it's best not to pity them; rather, acknowledge these idols for overcoming, fighting, and for doing well.
