On the 9th of February, Red Velvet had their debut teaser and is getting for a world tour as an animated character in the movie "Trolls: World Tour" created by DreamWorks and directed by Walt Dohrn and David P. Smith.
The official social media account of the Korean girl group under SM Entertainment has released a teaser poster of the group member's character in the said movie.
In the individual poster of the troll characters, Seulgi will be playing the role of Gomdori (yellow), Wendy as Wani (Blue), Joy as Ari (Green), Yeri as Kim petit (Purple) and irene as Baby Bun (Pink).
In addition to this, it was announced that Red Velvet participated in the creation of the movie as well through voice acting.
According to the press release of SM Entertainment, the female idol group will be playing the role of the K-pop trolls, and the anime movie will be carrying and introducing different genres of music, including pop, rock, classical, techno, country and punk.
Moreover, the producer of trolls, Gina Shay, gave an official statement about Red Velvet's debut as the characters saying,
"Red Velvet has cast as the representative of Kpop because they pursue a variety of musical styles and are unique and undeniably attractive to global music fans. It was an excellent choice."
"In addition to the recordings, the members not only showed their individuality but also perfectly blended into the K-pop troll characters.", she added.
Furthermore, Red Velvet's songs will be inserted in the movie as well, including their "Reve Festival" song "Zimzalabim" and their famous song from their 3rd mini-album "Russian Roulette."
Meanwhile, Gomdori was given to Seulgi as her name for she was usually called as "Seulgi Bear" wherein Gomdori means "Bear" in Korea, as well as the other members, were named after their nickname, such as Wendy who prefers Wani because it gave her a warm vibe. In contrast, Joy's "chick" nickname in Korea is Ari. Also, Yeri, as the maknae, was called as Kim-petit for she's the baby of the group while Irene was called Baby Bun, the "original visual of the group."
Nevertheless, the group can be seen as a five-member group in the movie that will be released this 20th of March.
"Trolls: World Tour" will be revolving around the story of six musical tribes devoted to a different genre of music in their separated lands. However, the rock tribe decided to upstage the other tribes for the rock to reign all over the world. The remaining tribes will then unite to prevent the ulterior motive of the other tribe.
On the other hand, Red Velvet continues to top domestic and international charts, following their successful comeback through their repackage album that completed their "Reve Festival" trilogy, "Reve Festival Finale." Their title track, "Pyscho," had already won several first places in different music shows, as well as got the 1st place in iTunes top album chart and Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart.
The group is currently promoting as a four-member group while Wendy is recovering from her stage accident during her rehearsal for a year-end show.
