Following the several controversies that YG Entertainment faced in 2019, the agency is finally showing signs of retrieval of their position after announcing three major schedules that will surely make them dominate the K-pop industry once again.
Last year, YG's founder, Yang Hyun Suk, left the company after being involved in the huge Burning Sun scandal, together with the BIGBANG's former member Seungri's involvement in the same case as well. It became a massive explosion for the label to seemingly hit the dust.
However, this year, with the new CEO, Hwang Bo Kyung, fans are hoping that things will get better as the label prepares their artists for a turning point to success.
BIGBANG's Contract Renewal and Comeback
Recently, it has become the biggest concern of everyone if the "Kings of K-pop" BIGBANG will renew their contract to YG amidst the controversies it has been facing. However, on March 11, the agency confirmed that all the four members, including G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang and Daesung signed a contract renewal, assuring fans that they will continue to create and promote music under the same agency.
In addition to this, YG Entertainment also announced BIGBANG's first official comeback stage, which will happen through the biggest US music and arts festival, Coachella. Meanwhile, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the scheduled date which was supposed to be this April was moved to October.
This is a disappointment to some fans, however, after the expectations got higher as YG also announced that BIGBANG is preparing something, but what, when and where is yet to be announced.
BLACKPINK's Comeback with a New Music Concept
The quartet's comeback postponement sparked several negative feedback to the company, as BLINKs (BLACKPINK's fandom name) of the world-renowned group have been anticipating their return for a really long time after their last release, which was "KILL THIS LOVE." Their song brought achievement and major sales to the company, wherein their music entered several music charts including the US Billboard and UK official single chart, ranking as the highest for the K-pop group category.
Moreover, their recent tour "2019 IN YOUR AREA" became the first tour in Asia, North America, Europe, and Oceania to reach sales of 1.16 Billion Won or approximately $1 Million in each concert held in different continents.
Fans now have a greater expectation with their forthcoming comeback album and have been waiting for the new music concept they are about to unveil.
YG TREASURE Debut
The newest group of YG Entertainment are also gaining lots of interest as their debut will finally happen this year after postponing it last year due to the issues surrounding the agency.
