As K-pop's influence gets bigger, more and more individuals who want to train and debut as K-pop idols are also increasing. On the popular Korean community site, a user started a post asking, "If you can debut as an idol and you can debut in either of the two agencies, SM and JYP, where would you debut? Tell me why!"
The post was written on April 6, and then it immediately gained lots of interest and attention from K-netizens. Eventually, it sparked a debate among fans if which is the ideal agency for them, given that SM and JYP agencies are part of the "BIG 3" or the top entertainment companies which solidified their reputation and influence not only in Korea but as well as in the global market.
The comments and remarks are divided into SM stans and JYP stans, and they have provided reasons as they choose a specific agency.
A fan who wants to debut as an SM artist said, "I'm a fan of SM idols, I like their concepts."
SM idols indeed had their own colors and concept, starting from TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls Generation, SHINee, f(x), EXO, Red Velvet, and NCT. Despite being in the same agency, a fan can immediately differentiate the genre and concept of each group. However, when it comes to their vocals and visuals, one can immediately say, "Ah, this is SM's style."
In addition to this, a fan also commented that not only SM Entertainment is focused on the global market, but the relationship of its artists also deserves applause.
"I think SM's relationship is so good for senior idols are taking care of their junior artists," a netizen wrote.
SM artists' interactions are often observed, especially during SMtown's concerts and their famous SMtown Halloween parties.
Meanwhile, fans are choosing JYP as well, and a fan exclaimed, "I am proud that JYP artists are remarkably good-natured."
Most of the fangirls in the community chose JYP, saying, "If you look at the artists from JYP, they are doing well even after their contracts expire, and looking at all of them, and they are also very caring from artists to trainees. And since JYP is popular when it comes to girl groups, I want to be included in a girl group like TWICE. All of their music and albums are a hit."
From Wonder Girls, HyunA, Sunmi, Yu Bin, and So Hee are all doing great as solo artists. In addition to this, Bae Suzy, who came from Miss A, is a successful singer and actress. JYP has less problematic artists, making them focus on their careers and images, according to fans.
Nevertheless, despite the positive comments, some netizens also expressed the disadvantages of being in either of the two agencies.Though SM Entertainment is future-oriented, SM is not efficient when it comes to taking care of its artists' well-being and health. With back-to-back comebacks, schedules and activities, their artists' can't even rest, primarily, NCT. But when they had hiatus, it's a long wait before fans can get another comeback again.
As for JYP artists, security and their artists' safety is not secured. Starting from TWICE, StrayKids, and ITZY, these artists had been involved in controversies, including stalking, receiving hate comments, experiencing cyberbullying, and many more, which is lacking with JYP.
Nevertheless, there's no perfect agency, and the reasons above are what K-netizens think if they are to debut in SM or JYP. How about you?
