On May 6, fans of NCT Dream's Jaemin were angered after some netizens were continuously bringing up the false dating rumor of the idol with actress Kim Ji-in.
Antis then took this issue as their opportunity to make incessant negative comments and messages towards Jaemin through different social media platforms, including Lysn, which is the official site of SM Artists' fan club members.
During their appearance on SBS Power FM "Cultwo Show" Radio on May 5, NCT Dream members talked about their recently-released album "Reload," introducing their new track "Ridin'" as well. During the program, the youngest members of NCT showed off their refreshing images, and they also shared stories about themselves and their co-members.
However, as they were having fun, the MC suddenly asked Jaemin questions about Netflix saying, "But someone kept on asking Jaemin about Netflix. Do you watch a lot on Netflix?"
Jaemin looked at the comments flashing on the screen and answered, "I do watch a lot, there's a lot of dramas and movies-," and he was cut off by the MC as he shouldn't mention the titles.
After the show, fans expressed their disbelief through social media, as according to fans, Jaemin was spammed with comments about him and Kim Ji-in, their dating rumor, as well as the real story about his Netflix account. Further, fans think that the question appeared to be shady, as the topic about Netflix is susceptible to be talked about.
NCTzens were not happy as Jaemin was experiencing criticism and hate attacks from online users, even after the dating rumor was proven to be fake.
For those who haven't been in the loop, the dating scandal started when his co-star in a web drama, actress Kim Ji-in, uploaded a screenshot of a Netflix account on her Instagram story, sending her support to her co-artist Kim Gyun Tae who played the main role in the drama, "Extracurricular," produced by Netflix. Shortly after, K-netizens noticed the name of the NCT Dream member under the screenshot, which said, "Na Jaemin-nim," pertaining that the actress is using or sharing an account with the idol.
Dating rumors sparked thereafter. An online user wrote, "What a 21st [century] way to catch someone dating."
Some also expressed that they couldn't accept that he's possibly dating, which is also the reason why he is getting hate on the web. In fact, an anonymous Twitter account, which is believed to be the person who spread the rumor, already apologized, according to a post of Jaemin's supporter. Further, there have been discussions, claiming that the now-deleted Instagram story was photoshopped.
Meanwhile, fans are currently doing their best to counter the rumor and affirmed to the K-pop star that they support him fully. Heaps of supporters are also planning to mass email SM Entertainment to report the hateful remarks that the idol has been receiving.
NCTzens are also using the hashtag #나나야_널_평생_사랑해줄게 (Nana, I will love you for the rest of my life) to cheer for and comfort Jaemin.
