On May 8, a social network index gave fans and netizens a glimpse of G-Dragon's influence and impact in China, wherein currently, he is reigning on the Chinese social media platform Weibo with four titles due to a single post.
According to the data of China's largest social networking site, which released the ranking for Weibo's Hallyu star on Tuesday, G-Dragon, the iconic member of K-pop group BIGBANG, ranked as No. 1 in the listing for four categories, including the integrated index, the number of subscriptions, the communication index, and influence.
The data was calculated through the record of Weibo for a month, starting from April 1 to April 30. Weibo is a popular social media outlet that is commonly used by fans and netizens. Thus, through this platform, the results can be a standard way to measure or to know a Hallyu star's real fame in China.
Fans were amazed by the results, especially in regard to his communication index. On Weibo, the more a Hallyu star post or uploaded an update through their account, the higher the chance to have a favorable communication index. However, G-Dragon only updated his account just once, and that's when he uploaded an advertisement photo during the whole period.
YG Entertainment stated, "It is more meaningful because it is a record made by the cheering comments and retweets from countless fans."
Meanwhile, G-Dragon was recently selected as an advertisement model for mainland Chinese beverage brand "Chapai." This is not to mention that the ad is the first time since 2016 that the Hallyu star was able to promote on a large scale of the Chinese market, following the K-pop ban in the country. Many fans are then claiming that the possible lifting was due to G-Dragon, paving the way for promotion in China.
On the other hand, the male idol's advertisement banner has been placed all over the country, and note that it was made of huge digital banners, which immediately became a trending topic in the said country.
In addition to this, the BIGBANG leader is the first K-pop artist who was able to sign with a local Chinese brand, which is a huge and significant step for the K-pop industry. There are other Korean celebrity models in China, according to advertisement officials. However, they are only promoting Korean brands that are introduced in China.
With G-Dragon's power and influence, VIPs are looking forward to his upcoming activities as a solo artist and as a BIGBANG member.
Moreover, he was recently seen in BLACKPINK's Jennie's live broadcast, making fans anticipate his comeback more.
