On May 30, fans and netizens are currently in a serious discussion through various social media platforms after BTS Suga's alleged statement mentioning the coronavirus pandemic, which brought misunderstandingbetween ARMYs and netizens.
The controversy started when BTS Suga, who recently dropped his mixtape, "D-2," held a V Live broadcast to communicate with fans and, at the same time, to unveiled the behind-the-scenes and process while he worked on his tracks including, "Daechwita," on May 29.
During the broadcast, he also talked about the coronavirus pandemic and revealed that while he was producing his mixtape, there is a reported confirmed case in a nearby building he's working in. However, luckily, with the help of their staff, they were able to finish 'D-2' and continued talking about CORONA-19 and later on shared various stories to fans.
The V Live broadcast doesn't have a subtitle; thus, international fans worldwide who are watching the broadcast also skimmed to their social media accounts, as some fan sites and media outlets are doing real-time English subtitles.
This was when a news site in Twitter stirred up ARMYs, fandom of BTS, netizens and other K-pop fans, after The Pop Hub posted a video with a headline saying, "BTS' Suga says Corona Virus was a BLESSING because it allowed him to release new music!," pertaining that the idol called the pandemic as a blessing. According to the media outlet, the translation was certain as it was translated directly by Koreans.
As soon as it was released, other K-pop fans and netizens expressed their negative feedback about the idol, questioning him how he could find a silver lining amidst the dying people every minute due to the unfortunate pandemic, leading to a backlash to the BTS member. However, ARMYs who found out the issue came to the rescue and fire back to the news site and claimed that it Suga didn't say anything like that during the broadcast, demanding the account to delete the post and apologize for defamation. Several BTS Korean fans then posted the exact translations of what Suga said in the video, clarifying that the idol didn't even mention any statement calling the pandemic as a "BLESSING," which was emphasized in the headline.
According to several Koreans' translation, which matched to each other, the idol actually says, "Anyways, I don't have the 'madness' from back then now. I feel fine. Actually, I wanted to put eight tracks in the mixtape, but because of the corona, I had more time to put more tracks on it."
In some translations, Suga allegedly used the word, 'luckily,'' thanks to' after using a Korean word which can mean several terms when translated in English; however, fans are confident that he did not mean to say it a blessing, as he also clarified that it was not his intention to put it like that.
Fans are then clearing this issue and reporting the incident to the Twitter support account and directly to Big Hit.
On the other hand, BTS Suga donated 100 Million Won recently to the Hope National Disaster Relief Association to help Daegu, his hometown, prevent and recover from CORONA-19.
