VICTON's Han Seung Woo had an exclusive interview to discuss his songs, aspirations, and more with Marie-Claire Korea magazine!
VICTON returned with "Mayday" at the beginning of this month, just three months after "Howling" dropped. Han Seung Woo talked about his role in making their newest title track.
"Hanse and I have written lyrics and all our members' choreographic ideas," he explained.
"Every one of our members has played a significant role in developing each album. Even if it meant competing with one another, we did not hesitate to express our opinions. It was, therefore, an intensive development," he said.
When asked why the group was especially enthusiastic throughout the production process for this new song, Han Seung Woo simply responded, "VICTON made its debut in 2016 and then at the end of last year, we began to get publicity through our song 'Nostalgic Night,' and we also won our first music event."
He added, "The approach to our 'Howling' song in March was also very successful. This gives us public confidence and momentum, I believe, to focus on keeping it up."
Han Seung Woo was also asked if he had written unreleased tracks, he answered, "I wrote a lot. Songs such as a soothing track, a dancing song which would have been fun and simple to hear during summer, and I've also written a song while arranging for it a sexy dance series."
The idol added, "Surely, they are better than the tracks I wrote before, so I will release them soon, but I will find the best opportunity."
Han Seung Woo also shared, "I've tried several genres, but I really like R & B and hip hop, specifically. I'm into Lauv and ROLE MODEL's music lately."
While Han Seung Woo is known for his singing, rapping, composing, writing songs, and choreography, he was asked when he got to the time to do it all.
Han Seung Woo answered, "I wonder about that, too. My everyday routine nowadays is that, in the morning, I go over to my studio to listen to music and also to sing. Then, I launch my program and write lyrics, and afterward, I insert some if I think of some lyrics."
He proceeded with a laugh, "If I'm tired, I'll play a video game a little bit. I start practicing dance moves in the evening. I work on writing again at night or in the wee hours of the morning. For the last few months, I've worked incredibly hard."
Han Seung Woo was also asked if he is exhausted from dedicating time to music every hour of each day.
"I feel extra blocked than being tired. The most frustrating moments can be when I pour my best into everything, and I realize I have nothing much more to put in," Han Seung Woo responded.
He shared that when he completed a lyrics, he felt especially blocked and then realized he was using the same melodic line with his next song unknowingly because he was so invested in that melody.
When asked what he thinks his fans want right now, he responded by saying, "First off, they want to see us again."
Han Seung Woo went on, "They would like us to try and create a refreshing concept again. Up to our third Mini Album, our concepts were refreshing, and then we moved to a dreamy, soulful mood. Our fans like the music we've recently launched, and I've also seen several responses that suggest they miss and look for our old style."
