TWICE's 9th mini-album, "MORE & MORE", broke the recorded sales for a girl group in Gaon history.
"MORE & MORE" which was announced on June 1, recorded a cumulative sales of 563,000 copies, as of July 2. This statistc is based on Gaon Chart shipments. They are the most popular girl group in the Gaon Chart's history, proving TWICE's popularity.
As of May 27, the number of pre-orders exceeded 500,000, proving how much attention was placed on this comeback even prior to its release. This album is one of the best performing albums in history in terms of initial sales.
TWICE has been on the rise thanks to their promotions. The group has accumulated 5.26 million Korean won is domestic album sales, as of July 3. This statistic takes into account every album from "The Story Begins" which was released in October 2015 all the way to their latest work "MORE & MORE".
In addition, if the Japanese album sales were included into the figure, the company would have garnered 8.8 million Korean won in sales.
TWICE was formed by the Mnet x JYP Entertainment survival show "SIXTEEN," in which seven of the members were selected by the finalists, and two members were selected by Park Jinyoung. Tzuyu was added to the group for being the fan favorite and Momo - who was eliminated in a previous episode - was chosen for her dance skills by the A&R team and the trainers, and they joined Jihyo, Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Dahyun, Mina, Chaeyoung, and Sana.
The group debuted in 2015 and rose to fame with "Cheer Up." TWICE is the first Korean girl group to earn a Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of Japan. They also ranked third in the Top Artist category of Billboard Japan's 2017 Year-End ranking.
Further, they are also the first K-pop act to hold a Japanese dome tour. They have since expanded to promote in the United States.
