If you're a long-time K-pop fan, then rumors and speculations in the industry are no longer surprising. Usually, companies or the aritsts themselves are quick to shut them down, but there are some rare cases in which these rumors actually ended up being true. Here are a few of them.
1. TWICE's Momo and Super Junior's Heechul's relationship
During the time TWICE released "Cheer Up," Super Junior's Heechul did not hide his affection for Momo. On variety shows, he openly admitted that she was his crush and would dance and sing Momo's part in "Cheer Up" even when TWICE wasn't on the show.
When the two met on variety shows, they exhibited great chemistry, with Momo being able to make Heechul's heart beat fast and the two having cute banter. In 2019, rumors started going around that the two were dating, but their agencies denied it at the time.
In 2020, the two were once again involved in dating rumors. While many fans thought that it was just speculation and that their agencies would just deny the claims again, both SM Entertainment and JYP Entertainment confirmed the two were a couple.
2. Yeonwoo leaving MOMOLAND
In mid-2019, people started speculating that Yeonwoo would be leaving MOMOLAND after she started appearing less and less in the group's activities. At that time, she was filming a drama, and her company quickly stated that she would remain in the group and was just busy due to conflicting schedules. Yeonwoo also replied to the rumors, saying that it caught her off guard and that she was just occupied with filming her drama.
In late 2019, however, MLD Entertainment announced Yeonwoo and Taeha would be leaving the group, but Yeonwoo would still be signed to the company as an actress. They stated that Yeonwoo wanted to focus on her career as an actress and after discussions, chose to respect her wishes. Recently, however, netizens started speculating that Yeonwoo was kicked out of MOMOLAND rather than leaving on her own following an alarming fancafe post by Yeonwoo.
3.HyunA and Dawn's relationship
In 2018, rumors started flying around that HyunA was dating fellow Triple H member Dawn, who previously went by E'Dawn. At the time, he was also active as a member of PENTAGON and were considered rookies by the public as they had just released their breakthrough song, "Shine."
When the rumors started, Cube Entertainment was quick to shut down the rumors. However, HyunA and Dawn shocked the public when they revealed themselves that they were a couple and that Cube Entertainment's statement was false. The company had ultimately kicked the couple out, saying that they had lost trust with each other.
Both artists are currently signed to P-Nation, a company founded by PSY.
4. Big Hit Entertainment acquiring Pledis Entertainment
In early 2020, numerous media outlets reported that Big Hit Entertainment planned to acquire Pledis Entertainment. At that time, Big Hit had denied the reports, stating that though they are open to various opportunities, they had no decision on such matters.
A few months later, however, Big Hit Entertainment revealed that they had become Pledis Entertainment's biggest shareholder, effectively acquiring the company. All their artists are currently under the Big Hit Label. Pledis along with Source Music are now subsidiaries of Big Hit Entertainment.
Artists under the Big Hit Label are: BTS, TXT, GFriend, SEVENTEEN, NU'EST, Nana, Bumzu, Kyulkyung, Yehana, Sungyeon, and After School.
