MOMOLAND debuted in 2015 under MLD Entertainment, formerly known as Duble Kick Entertainment. Prior to their debut, the girl competed on the Mnet survival show "Finding Momoland," a show created by Duble Kick Entertainment, to pick seven members to debut in their new group. The original seven member line-up of the group are: Hyebin, Yeonwoo, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy.
In 2017, Daisy and Taeha joined the group. Daisy had competed on "Finding Momoland" but was eliminated, while Taeha had competed on "Produce 101" as a Starship Entertainment. The group promoted as nine members.
In 2018, the group achieved breakthrough success with the song "Bboom Bboom." The song earned their a Platinum certification from Gaon Music Chart, making MOMOLAND the first girl group and second Korean act to earn one. The Platinum certification is given to those whose songs reach over 100 million streams. Following the success of "Bboom Bboom," the girl debuted in Japan with a Japanese version of the song. The success of "Bboom Bboom" also lead them to sign a co-management deal with Philippine media agency ABS-CBN for their promotions in the country.
In March 2019, the group release "I'm So Hot," which notably did not include Daisy and Taeha. In September 2019, the group released their first Japanese studio album called "Chiri Chiri," without Daisy, Taeha, and Yeonwoo. Later that year, MLD Entertainment announced that Yeonwoo and Taeha had left the group, with Yeonwoo stayed signed to the label for her acting activities and Taeha leave the company altogether. The group continued promotions as six members.
In January 2020, Daisy gave an interview to reveal that "Finding Momoland" was rigged and the votes were manipulated. She also revealed that she was contacted after her elimination and was told that there was a plan to let her debut. Daisy went on to say that the company had blocked her from promoting with the group even after she recovered from her health issues and would only allow her to end her contract with them if she paid 1.1 billion won as a fee. MLD Entertainment denied the claims and said they would be taking legal action. In May 2020, MLD Entertainment announced Daisy had left MOMOLAND but would remain signed under their company.
