South Koreans who were born or raised in other parts of the globe, such as Canada, got the chance to shine as K-pop idols. Since the emerging popularity of K-pop internationally, a lot of overseas talent auditions were held by agencies and a lot of artists were the products of their search. There are also some who decided to return to Korea.
Amongst the idols who have successfully achieved a slot of becoming K-pop stars are these 8 Canadians that you might didn't know about.
Somi
Somi who is a former member of I.O.I was born in Canada from her Korean mother and her Duth-Canadian dad. They eventually moved to Korea when she was young. She debuted with JYP Entertainment but after leaving the agency, she signed a contract as a soloist with The Black Label that is a subsidiary of YG Entertainment.
The Boyz's Kevin
Originally from Vancouver, Canada, he pursued joining The Boyz even if it meant not moving further with college. He is innately a talented musician that he won a prize in 7th grade in Canada.
The Boyz's Jacob
Another Canadian member from The Boyz is Jacob. He was originally from Toronto before becoming an idol.
Former Super Junior-M's Henry Lau
Everyone is amazed at how talented Henry Lau is. Aside from that, his Canadian accent is often heard by the many. He was born and raised in Toronto and was eventually scouted through a global audition, hosted by SM Entertainment.
NCT and SuperM's Mark
Another Canada based K-pop idol is Mark of NCT and SuperM. He was born in Toronto and moved to Vancouver. He is a huge fan of Michael Jackson. He joined the audition of SM Entertainment's global audition, which he was luckily selected.
Epik High's Tablo
Tablo was born in Korea, but since his father's job prompted them to constantly move from one country to another, he spent many years living in Canada around age 8 to high school. He managed to debut as one of the South Korean hip-hop group Epik High.
Day 6's Young K
Young K spent his childhood days in Ilsan before moving to Canada, where she spend his high school years. He started his musical career there before he and his band mates were scouted by JYP Entertainment.
Red Velvet's Wendy
The beautiful Wendy was born in Seoul, Korea but had to move to America and then to Canada to pursue her studies. She is passionate in music that she learned several musical instruments. She auditioned at SM Entertainment's Global Audition in Canada and successfully debuted with Red Velvet after two years of training.
