These K-pop girl groups and idols are indeed popular in China! Based on Weibo's chart for the first half of 2020, starting from January to June, these following Korean artists have the most popular hashtags/most searched/mentioned names in the largest social media platform in the said country.
Among the 100 Korean actress, actors and idols that were listed in the chart, these female idols and groups are the most popular in China for the first half of this year.
1. f(x) Victoria (#4)
Victoria, leader of the K-pop group f(x), stood at #4 with 70.9 billion hashtags. Aside from being a K-pop idol, Victoria is also a Chinese singer, actress, host, model, etc.
2. SNSD Yoona (#15)
Yoona's popularity is indeed skyrocketing in China to be the first Korean female idol listed on the chart. In the first half, the idol got 27.4 Billion hashtag mentions.
3. SNSD (#19)
Despite hiatus of the group for almost three years, Girls' Generation's popularity in China is commendable given that they are the first group in the list, ranking with 21.1 Billion.
4. f(x) Krystal (#20)
Krystal, who is co-member of Victoria, ranked at No. 20 with 19.9 billion! Aside from being a popular K-pop idol, she's also creating a name in China through her acting. She starred alongside EXO's Lay and Wang Yibo in the Chinese film "Unexpected Love," though no confirmation has been made if and when it will be released.
5. Jessica Jung (#23)
The K-pop idol Jessica, who is a former member of Girls' Generation, secured a spot in the list. In the first half of 2020, the "Shine" book author accumulated 18.1 billion mentions.
6. SNSD Taeyeon (#25)
One of the most popular and best K-pop vocalists in K-pop, Taeyeon's popularity is extending through the globe, particularly in China. According to the statistics, Taeyeon got 17.7 billion hashtags/mentions on Weibo.
7. BLACKPINK (#29)
BLACKPINK is the revolustion indeed! With their recent pre-release song, "How You Like That," they drew huge attention from China, not only topping China's QQ Music Charts but also the popularity rankings on Weibo and China Aiman Index.
8. IU (#31)
The "Nation's Sweetheart" of Korea is one of the favorites in China. For the ranking, IU got 14.2 billion hashtags.
9. WSJN (#43)
The rising girl group is the third K-pop group to be listed! Cosmic Girls, or also known as WSJN, is a group composed of Korean and Chinese members. Their accumulated hashtags since the start of the year to June is 9.3 billion.
10. Red Velvet (#46)
Red Velvet got 8.4 billion and #46 for the most popular K-artist's hashtags in the first half of 2020. With their latest group release, "Pyscho," the K-pop group received huge recognition in the world.
