Recently, Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) updated its records of K-pop idols who currently own the most copyrights, and the list was incredible! KOMCA was established in 1964, which is a non-profit copyright collective for musical works, etc.
Usually, when a K-pop idol or singer took part in writing or composing lyrics and songs as well as arranging the music, they acquired the credits or legal rights to the song. Thus, on the list compiled by fans, here are the top 100 K-pop singers and idols with the most copyrighted songs, as of October 2020.
Topping the chart is VIXX Ravi, who currently has 183 registered songs under his name. The K-pop idol and founder of GROOVL1N, a hip-hop label, started making and composing songs when he's still young, particularly when he's 19, that's why he was able to reach the number now that he's only 27.
Most of their album's songs' rap and lyrics were done along with Ravi, as well as she also wrote songs for their junior female group GUGUDAN.
Next to him is BIGBANG's G-Dragon with 174 copyrighted works. The idol was known not only for his incredible rapping skills but as well as due to his ability to make enticing and powerful songs, including "Bad Boy" and "Bang Bang Bang."
As for the third place, Korean singer PSY secured the spot with 170, followed by BTS RM at No. 4 with 162 copyrights. PSY is known to be the singer of the infamous track, "Gangnam Style." It wasn't originally popular but due to a surge of parodies, he was able to experience immense public interest. Due to this, he gave up the copyrights of the song, which in return earned him over $8.1 Million in the same year according to Techdirt due to YouTube ads and massive downloads at iTunes.
Moving on, sitting at rank 5 is HIGHLIGHT Jun Hyung with 156 number of copyrights while BLOCK B Zico stands at No.6 with 151 songs registered under his name, followed by BAP Yongguk who participated in 127 songs, while MONSTA X Jooheon (118), BTS Suga (116) and CNBLUE Yonghwa (107) ranked 8,9, and 10 respectively.
