After analyzing the tweets and accounts generated by Twitter users around the world this year, Twitter has announced the rankings in the K-Pop field with hashtags "ThisHappened" and "2020 Something."
On Dec. 8, Twitter has released the official ranking of the most tweeted K-Pop accounts worldwide this year. World-renowned boy group BTS (@BTS_twt) has taken the top spot in most mentioned K-Pop accounts. Not only that, but @BTS_twt is also No. 1 in the rankings of most mentioned musician accounts and accounts worldwide this year. BTS's account has been the most mentioned account globally for four consecutive years already, since 2017.
BTS also ranked second in the "most retweeted tweets" worldwide. In particular, the post containing the cover video of "Never Not" of American singer-songwriter Lauv that was sung by BTS's Jungkook earned 3 million retweets with 35 million views.
Other than that, among the tweets related to K-Pop, the top five tweets that had the most likes are all confirmed as posts from BTS. The first one was a photo uploaded by BTS's V with the word "Hi Army," which received 3.2 million likes. The second and third are Jungkook's cover video posts, and in fourth place is the tweet in which BTS celebrated after ranking No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Then, the fifth one is a tweet posted by RM in commemoration of his birthday.
Meanwhile, EXO (@weareoneEXO) ranked second in the most mentioned K-Pop accounts across the globe. This is the result of EXO members Suho and Kai announcing their solo activities. This includes the tweet revealing the solo debut of Kai last month, which recorded 310,000 likes and 140,000 retweets.
In third place is Blackpink (@BLACKPINK) that launched its official Twitter account this past June after the premiere of the music video for the group's pre-release track "How You Like That." Additionally, the female group claimed the No.7 spot in the ranking of most mentioned musician accounts in the world.
The other most tweeted K-Pop accounts this year are SEVENTEEN (@pledis_17) in No. 4, GOT7 (@GOT7Official) in No. 5, NCT127 (@NCTsmtown_127) in No. 6, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (@TXT_members) in No. 7, ATEEZ (@ATEEZofficial) in No. 8, TREASURE (@treasuremembers) in No. 9, and Stray Kids (@Stray_Kids) in No. 10.
Meanwhile, following BTS in the ranking for "2020 World Top 10 Musicians" that are most mentioned this year are Kanye West in No. 2, Beyonce in No. 3, Rihanna in No. 4, Justin Bieber in No. 5, Cardi B in No. 6, Drake in No. 8, Ariana Grande in No. 9, and Taylor Swift in No. 10. As previously mentioned, BLACKPINK is in No. 7.
Furthermore, Twitter has released the "#KpopTwitter 2020 World Map," in which they analyzed the tweets from around the world that were made in the past 10 years, including the Space Audit's "K-Pop Radar" last September. The #KpopTwitter 2020 World Map contains a total of 6.1 billion K-Pop tweets, which are the results of the K-Pop conversation volume over the past 10 years, countries with many K-Pop related tweets, and mentions of popular artists by particular nations.
