Spotify, the world's largest music streaming service, has issued its "2020 K-pop Year-End Closing" ahead of the new entries of K-pop songs in the first half of the year. And, it is revealed that the tracks were able to attain an outstanding record of streams in total.
Every year, Spotify issues a year-end report for acknowledging the music streaming trends in that year before releasing a new set of records. The platform launched the "2020 Wrapped" as a way to share a few highlights from the year for fans to remember or are unforgettable. The result was analyzed based on the streaming trend data of users all over the world from Jan. 1 to Nov. 15 last year.
Based on the "2020 K-pop Year-End Closing" released by Spotify on Jan. 7, there are 10 K-pop groups that were highly streamed worldwide on the platform last year. These Korean acts are unveiled to have attained an impressive record of 10.67 billion streams altogether. The streams are expected to increase even more if K-pop continues to expand its popularity

Among the idol groups, the act that achieved the highest streaming record last year around the world was BTS. BLACKPINK was the second most-streamed band on Spotify and was followed by TWICE, Stray Kids, Red Velvet, EXO, SEVENTEEN, IU, NCT 127, and (G)I-DLE in order. These 10 K-pop groups are said to have had the most streaming times in 2020.
As seen, IU is the only solo artist included in the list, meaning she is the most-streamed female soloist on Spotify. As for the male idol, BTS Suga, who released a mixtape titled "Agust D" back in August 2016, had the largest number of streams. In particular, the single "Daechwita," which he launched last May 2020, was one of the songs that were most listened to under the hip hop genre.
Apart from BTS Suga's "Daechwita," "Any Song" by Zico was also a fan-favorite on Spotify. In fact, it was the most-streamed among the hip-hop songs in 2020. When it comes to R&B tracks, EXO Baekhyun's "Candy" had the highest streams, while among the drama OST, BTS V's "Sweet Night," which was meant for the television series "Itaewon Class" recorded the biggest number of listeners.
Moreover, in the "RADAR Korea" playlist created by Spotify to introduce new Korean artists to the world, TREASURE managed to obtain the most streams. The rookie group was followed by solo artist Alexa, singer-songwriter Bibi, five-member boy band A.C.E, and another rookie group Secret Number.
Marian Dicus, the head of Spotify Global Music Division, commented, "This global K-pop year-end closing reflects Spotify's vision to actively support various Korean artists and music's worldwide success." She added, "With the official launch of the domestic music streaming in the first half of this year, we will do our best to contribute to increasing the growth of the platform and give positive impact to users, music fans, artists, and creators."
