From BTS to TWICE and SuperM: K-pop Groups With Highest Number of Online Concert Viewers in 2020-2021 So Far

From BTS, who recorded 993,000 viewers, to SHINee, who recently succeeded with 130,000 viewers, prominent K-pop groups including TWICE, SuperM, BLACKPINK, and more also have the most number of online concert viewers!

In 2020, non-contact promotions and digital releases were established by K-pop artists and agencies as an alternative way to communicate with global fans despite the novel coronavirus. Since then, online fan meetings and virtual concerts became a hit due to the fact that it gives equal chances for every fan to meet their favorite idols and artists regardless of their locations.

In line with this, K-pop enthusiasts are also drawn by the achievements of each group that had their online concerts. Based on the latest list, the following K-pop groups gained the most viewers on their online concerts.

[Note: The K-pop groups' online concerts' viewers and numbers below are officially announced by their respective agencies. Some online concerts, including TVXQ, SEVENTEEN, IZ*ONE, as well as NCT Dream and WayV, were not disclosed.]

BTS Sits Atop K-pop Groups with Most Online Concert Viewers

Among numerous K-pop groups, the "K-pop Titan" BTS impressively recorded 993,000 paid online concert viewers that secured their crown at No. 1.

BTS's online concert "BTS MAP OF THE SOUL ON:E," which was held in October last year, was watched in 191 countries and regions around the world. At the time, BTS sang 23 songs of various genres, including the songs from its fourth full-length album "MAP OF THE SOUL: 7" and the digital single "Dynamite," which shines first on the U.S. Billboard singles chart "Hot 100" on the concert stage, which lasted about 150 minutes each.

Apparently, the concert was supposed to be held offline as well, but due to the huge surge of Koreans who were diagnosed with covid-19 at that time, it became a full-fledged live streaming concert.

BTS, a group of seven is continuously gaining massive response now that they are set to have a major return this May, according to Korean media outlets.

NCT, TWICE, BLACKPINK: K-pop Groups Who Recorded Most Viewers During their Paid Online Concerts

Following BTS, "World's Biggest Girl Group" BLACKPINK, who had their first online concert this January 2021, "BLACKPINK: THE SHOW" ranked second place.

The online viewers of "THE SHOW" were about 280,000, recording the largest number of K-pop girl group live-stream concerts.

According to YG Entertainment, the U.S. contributed 19.2 % of the ticket sales, the country that ranked No.1 with the most viewers compared to other countries around the world during the quartet's online show.

In addition to BTS and BLACKPINK, NCT then ranked third place with over 200,000 online viewers. The concert "NCT: Resonance: Global Wave" received a favorable response from 124 countries held on December 27.

Next, SHINee's first online concert and the most recent concert among the other groups rose to No. 4.

SHINee's "Beyond LIVE - SHINee WORLD was broadcast live worldwide and recorded 130,000 viewers from 120 countries around the world, including the United States, Japan, Italy, Denmark, Greece, the United Arab Emirates, China, Britain, Germany, India, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Poland, and Hungary. The concert became more special as it was the group's first concert in three years as well, following their military hiatus.

Moreover, Super Junior ranked fifth place with 123,000 viewers, followed by Baekhyun of EXO and NCT 127, who recorded 110,000 online viewers and 104,000 viewers, respectively.

Lastly, the pioneers of online concerts, TWICE and SuperM, completed the top 9. The two groups incredible earned 100,000 and 75,000 paid online viewers, considering that they are some of the first K-pop groups who challenged online concerts.
