BTS's "Map of the Soul: 7" is the Best-Selling Album of All Time

Not only is BTS's 2020 release "Map of the Soul: 7" the best-selling album by a K-pop boy group, it is also the best-selling album in South Korean history. It has reportedly sold a whopping 4,440,818 copies in South Korea.

Upon its release, "Map of the Soul: 7" debuted at the top of the Gaon Album Chart, having sold over 2.65 million copies within the first six hours of its release.

Within the first week of its release, 3.37 million copies of "Map of the Soul: 7" were sold. In less than nine days of the album's release, "Map of Soul: 7" reportedly sold 4.1 million copies, making it the highest sales achieved by an album in a month and over a single year in the Gaon Album, Chart history.

"Map of the Soul: 7" is the first Korean album to surpass 4 million copies sold since the Gaon Chart's inception. It is the first album to be certified as "quadruple million" by Gaon since the platform implemented certifications.

As of press time, BTS is the only artist to achieve this feat.

BTS's "Map of the Soul: Persona" is the Second Best-Selling Album by a K-Pop Boy Group of All Time

Following after BTS's "Map of the Soul: 7" is its predecessor, "Map of the Soul: Persona." The mini-album has reportedly sold 3,979,733 copies in South Korea alone. During the first week of the mini-album sold 2.13 million copies, making it the highest number for an artist in South Korea since the Hanteo Chart first started tracking weekly sales.

Within the first month of its release, "Map of the Soul: Persona" sold 3,229,032 copies within the first month of its release, making it the highest-selling release on the Gaon Music Chart at the time. It previously held the record for the best-selling album of all time in South Korea, but that was broken my "Map of the Soul: 7."

In May 2019, "Map of the Soul: Persona" received a 3x million certification from Gaon for surpassing three million total sales. BTS is the first group ever to be awarded this certification.
