ITZY’s ‘SHOOT!’ Accused of Plagiarizing Chinese Singer’s Song

One of the songs from ITZY's new album "Guess Who," "SHOOT!," is being accused of plagiarizing a Chinese singer's song. Keep on reading for all the details.

ITZY's "SHOOT!" Accused of Plagiarizing Snow Kong's "Call Me By My Name"

ITZY released their fourth mini-album, "Guess Who," on Apr. 30, 2021. While the song "Mafia in the Morning," the album's title track, is the song gaining attention globally, that is not the case in China.

Instead, fans are calling out the song "SHOOT!" for allegedly plagiarizing the song "Call Me By My Name," a song by Chinese song Snow Kong.

On Weibo, China's biggest social media portal, numerous netizens are noting how similar ITZY's "SHOOT!" sounds to Snow Kong's song, "Call Me By My Name," with even claiming the former sounds like a cover of the latter. Many went further to compare the scores of the two songs.

Netizens uncovered that Snow's Kong's song is at 130bpm (beats per minute) and is a song in C minor. Meanwhile, ITZY's "SHOOT!" is at 132bpm in D minor. The difference between the two tracks is only a small difference of half a key. Additionally, netizens revealed that the melody at the beginning of the two songs is 2-2-2-1-3.

Additionally, the chorus of the two songs is highly similar. Both songs had double bass sounds and melody raps. Overall, the rhythm of the tracks is very similar.

As the rhythm of the whole song of "SHOOT!" bears too many uncanny resemblances to Snow Kong's "Call Me By My Name," many believe the producers of the former song plagiarized the latter. "SHOOT!" was produced by Andy Love (153/Joombas), earattack, Alexander Pavelich, Maria Hazell, Jerker Olov Harrison, Gigi Grombacher, Joakim Harestad, Haukass, and Evard Forre Erfjord. Earattack, Joki, and Erjford made the arrangement.
