Where is Cross Gene Now? Here's the Group That Debuted the First Japanese K-pop Idol

Cross Gene, a multinational idol group, attracted attention in the K-pop industry as the first group to debut a Japanese K-pop idol, Takuya Terada. The team also consists of Shin Wonho, who rose into stardom following his appearance in hit dramas, "Big" and "Legend of the Blue Sea."

Nine years after their debut, where is the group now?

In 2012, Cross Gene was launched by Amuse Korea and was introduced as a six-member multinational group (hereinafter three-member) that comprised of Chinese, Korean and Japanese members.

Initially, the boy band enjoyed success in Korea and Japan, and later on rose to popularity in foreign countries, thanks to their individual endeavors. Some of their popular tracks include "Na Hago Nolja," "Amazing - Bad Lady," "Touch It" and "Dystopia."

However, due to a lack of promotions and busy solo schedules, the group went to a hiatus, leading some members to eventually depart from Cross Gene to pursue their respective solo careers.

Here are the Current Whereabouts of Cross Gene Members:

Current Members:

1. Shin Wonho

Shin Wonho, also known as Shin, is the leader of Cross Gene since 2013, replacing Takuya. Aside from being a singer, Shin drew attention not only from K-pop fans but as well as K-drama enthusiasts following his appearance in hit dramas "Big" and "Legend of the Blue Sea."

In November 2020, Shin belatedly announced his military enlistment as a public service officer which started in October to enter quietly. He is expected to be discharged in July this year.

Currently, the male star is the only member under Amuse Korea.

2. Sangmin

Sangmin, the main dancer of the group, became known in the entertainment industry not only as an idol but musical actor where he landed a lead role on the 2011 musical, "Carpe Diem."

In 2019, he left the agency and while he stayed in the group. He enlisted in the military in the following year causing the temporary hiatus of Cross Gene.

3. Yongseok

The maknae and main vocalist of the group didn't renew the contract as well with Amuse Korea but clarified that he's still part of the group.

In November 2020, he became the third member out of four Korean members to enlist in the military and will be discharged in May 2022.

4. Seyoung

Seyoung, the previous main vocalist of Cross Gene alongside Yongseok, is the last one to join the team after replacing J.G in 2013.

Prior to their debut in 2012, he already enlisted in the military; thus, he continuously promoted his group and individual activities until 2020. Amid the temporary break of the group, Seyoung announced that he would be leaving Cross Gene.

Currently, he's communicating with fans through social media, particularly via his YouTube channel, "Coiblen."

5. Terada Takuya

Born and raised in Japan, Takuya Terada became the first fully Japanese idol to debut in K-pop industry.

In 2014, Takuya joined JTBC's "Non-Summit" where he earned the love and support of Korean fans and even gained the modifier, "Mr. Slender Hands."

His fame in Korea skyrocketed and he was invited to various shows and even won the "International Exchange Daesang" title at the 2014 Korean Hallyu Awards.

However, in 2018, Takuya personally announced his departure from the group following contract expiration with Amuse Korea.

6. Casper

Chu Xiao Xiang, or also known as Casper, was the Chinese member of Cross Gene. He fulfilled the positions of main rapper, main dancer and vocalist.

In 2017, Casper left the group without a specifying the reason, but some fans speculated that it was due to his back injury.

7. J.G.

Gao Jialang was another Chinese member who debuted under the group in 2012. While he drew fans for his impressive talent in singing, he had to leave the group after his older sister reportedly died in a car accident.

Seyoung replaced him and he went back to China to run their family's restaurant business.

In 2018, he joined the duet singing contest, "Sing Out," with Casper, and became a participant in "Produce Camp" in 2019 as well.
