Back in 2020, TXT (also known as Tomorrow X Together) member Taehyun drew attention after having revealed to fans that he had adopted a pet snake, an albino corn snake named Aengdu, which means "cherry" in Korean.
News of Taehyun getting himself a pet snake didn't come off as a surprise to fans, as the idol had often mentioned in past broadcasts how he loves snakes and wanted to raise one along with fellow member Hueningkai.
After months of hoping to raise one, Taehyun finally adopted Aengdu. According to Taehyun, prior to adopting his snake, he had studied and researched a lot on how to raise it.

On why he named his pet snake Aengdu, Hueningkai had revealed in his own live broadcast that it was because they wanted it to live long, and Taehyun shared how pets with names of food live longer. Hence, they decided on Aengdu for its cherry-red color.
However, after around six months of raising Aengdu, Taehyun had revealed that he gave up his pet snake for adoption, citing that he became too busy due to TXT's schedule and promotions to take care of it.

While this all happened back in 2020, one netizen brought up the topic on the online community forum Pann Nate. Since the publishing of the post on January 12, the post has garnered more than 130,000 views and hundreds of comments.
With many of the comments coming to criticize the TXT member for adopting and then putting it up for adoption again, with several mentioning how he wasn't able to realize that he would eventually become busy with his activities as a TXT member.
Some comments said, "And he could not foresee that he would become busy and still went ahead to adopt?? Kkk," "I become disgusted by people who adopt and then resend their pets for adoption," and "I thought that he would be more sharp knowing how busy his schedules can be, but he is unexpectedly clueless."
One netizen decided to also criticize other netizens who argue that snakes don't possess feelings, so it shouldn't matter as much.

"To the people who are saying 'as long as the snake goes to a good family' below are really dumbfounding. Then pets like puppies can just meet a good family and can be given away for adoption as you want? No matter how you debate that snakes don't have feelings, he is still irresponsible for adopting it, and this is a fact," the netizen said.
However, many have also come to his defense, stating that he is responsible enough for putting his snake up for adoption instead of leaving it at home despite being busy.
