Kevin Bacon Reveals He Was ‘Shocked’ With Remake of ‘Footloose’ And Why He Didn’t Appear In The 2011 Version

Kevin Bacon reveals he was "shocked" with the remake of his 1984 breakout film "Footloose," and for the first time speaks out about why he didn't make a cameo in the 2011 version.

At the Follow This event at New York's Paley Center for Media on Tuesday, Bacon said the writers wanted him to play the father of the main character, Ren McCormack, The Examiner reports. Bacon, 54, said he was "shocked" when producers told him they wanted to do a remake of "Footloose."

"To realize that you are old enough to have a movie that you are in - then it is time to remake it. It was a little bit of a shock," Kevin stated.

Bacon also spoke out about why he refused to play Ren's father in the 2011 film. He believed the part was "lousy" and that he would have only hurt the film by making an appearance.

"It was a lousy part! I was (McCormack's) father, which I don't mind, but he was just a miserable (person). I honestly think I would have done a disservice to the film... there was no point to me being in the movie," he said at an event in New York, according to MSN Movies.

He continued: "They built a scene that was really only there for me to be in the movie, and once I said no, they took the scene out... I liked the movie, though!"

According to The Inquisitr, the 1984 version of "Footloose" was the breakout film for Kevin Bacon's long career. The musical drama also sent the theme song, "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins, to No. 1 on the Billboard charts.

In the 2011 remake directed by Craig Brewer, Kenny Wormald plays Ren McCormack, a teen who moves from Boston to a deep southern town that has banned dancing. The New Englander teaches his friends to express themselves through dance and defy the laws.

The film was well-received and earned $62 million worldwide, The Inquisitr reports.
