Jason Kidd, NBA Great Is Putting His Hat In The Ring For Brooklyn Nets Head Coaching Job

Recently retired NBA star and Hall-of-Famer to be,  Jason Kidd has evidently put his hat in the ring for the head coaching position of the Brooklyn Nets. According to league sources,  his name has been discussed within the highest levels of the organization, according to SportsReporters.com.

Kidd has been discussing the possibility of making the leap from his great playing career, which recently came to an end as a New York Knickerbocker, to taking on a head coaching job in the NBA without the least bit of experience. Sources tell SportsReporters.com that Kidd has been working to identify a staff of assistant coaches who could help him overcome the significant learning curve.

The Nets have considered other candidates for the job, including Indiana Pacers associate head coach Brian Shaw.  But, Shaw is a hot commodity in the NBA and the Nets are competing for his services with the Los Angeles Clippers and the Denver Nuggets, both of whom recently fired their coaches.

Kidd still has strong ties within the Nets' organization that he revived with consecutive NBA Finals appearances (2002 and '03). After 19 seasons in the league, Kidd retired last week after one season with the New York Knicks.

Before Kidd signed a free-agent deal with the Knicks, he considered re-joining the Nets as a backup to star point guard Deron Williams. Kidd and Williams have a strong relationship and share an agent.

Kidd retired as a 10-time All-Star, and second behind John Stockton in career assists and steals. He's considered one of the most intelligent players in the sport's history.

Kidd denied any interest in coaching when his career came to an end, according to sportsreporters.com. When he was asked after the Knicks lost to Indiana in the playoffs this season what his plans were, in or out of basketball, Kidd told SportsReporters, "I am wide open to anything, but head coaching wouldn't necessarily be my first choice."

It appears that has changed in a matter of weeks.
