Apple WWDC 2013: Company Paid A Total Of $10 Billion To Developers, Apple CEO Says

Taking at the stage at the company’s annual gathering of developers, WWDC 2013, in San Francisco Monday, Tim Cook informed the crowd of developers and tech media that the company has paid a total of $10 billion to its developers, according to Tech Crunch.

“We are incredibly proud to announce that we have now paid developers $10 billion,” Cook said, while presenting a giant-sized check on the screen.

There are now a total of six million developers for Apple according to Cook. Of the six million, 1.5 million were added since WWDC 2012.

“Users have now downloaded 50 billion apps from the App Store,” the Apple CEO and successor of Steve Jobs said.

He also noted that 74% of app download revenue comes from Apple’s iOs, with the remaining 20% on the Android and 6% on other platforms.

He also gave an update on the company’s retail stats, “We now have 407 stores around the world. We just recently opened this store in Berlin; it’s in a 100 year old building, originally one of the first theaters in Berlin”

Immediately after the stats were provided and a demo was given on a brand-new app, Cook launched the Mac OS X Mavericks, the newest iteration of Apple's software.

The WWDC is Apple’s annual gathering of developers who code apps for the company’s platforms. It will be held in San Francisco from June 10-14. On it’s website, Apple describes that the WWDC is where you can learn how to take your apps to the next level.

The five-day confab draws more than 5,000 developers is usually a showcase of Apple’s software.
