On July 15 at 1 p.m. KST, ITZY officially dropped their fifth mini-album "CHECKMATE," together with the music video for the title song "SNEAKERS."
"SNEAKERS" is about following one's heart instead of putting your focus on what other people say. The track was composed by Sebastian Thott, Didrik Thott, and Jessica Pierpoint, and the lyrics were penned by Friday and OGI of GALACTIKA, together with Didrik Thott and Jessica Pierpoint.

Apart from "SNEAKERS," ITZY's "CHECKMATE" also includes five B-side songs, such as "Rac3r," "What I Want," "Free Fall," "365," and "Domino." An English version of "SNEAKERS" is also included in the mini-album.
Shortly after its release, ITZY's "SNEAKERS" MV was shared on the popular online community the qoo. The post quickly drew attention, garnering more than 28,000 views as of this writing.
While the user who shared the MV didn't leave any comment on the new release, the other netizens who saw the post took to the comments section to express what they think about the title track- and their reactions significantly vary.

"I like the fact that this song is easy to listen to."
"Seriously, it's so good.'
"The chorus, the choreography is all good."

On the other hand, other netizens were not satisfied. One online community user said, "Is that their title song? The chorus is fine, but it sounds like a B-side song. It doesn't give the title track vibe."
Another one stated, "Ah... so only the teaser was good, but the rest of the sounds give off a B-side vibe."
Since their debut, ITZY has been releasing title songs with powerful and catchy beats, such as "WANNABE" and "LOCO" just to name a few. Netizens are comparing the group's latest title track "SNEAKERS" to their previous ones as they deemed the latter boring.

Some netizens paid attention to ITZY's "SNEAKERS" MV, and some say that the concept in the video doesn't go well with the song's message. A few comments are "The music video concept and the song is different from each other" and "The song is good, but the MV has a separate concept."

ITZY's Upcoming Activities
ITZY will hold a two-day concert in Seoul this coming Aug. 6 and 7 before kicking off the North American leg of their "CHECKMATE" world tour. Their U.S. tour will run from late October to mid-November.
