One of the unique aspects of K-pop is the roles members are assigned within every idol group. In particular, one member (sometimes two members) is appointed as the leader. The member chosen to lead the team is usually either the oldest or the one with the longest training period. The six K-pop idols listed below could have been the leader of their groups, but for some reason, the position was given to another member.
6 K-pop Idols Who Could Have Been Leaders of Their Groups
BLACKPINK Jennie
Everyone knows that the BLACKPINK members have certain roles in the group-Jennie: main rapper, Lisa: main dancer, Rosé: main vocalist, and Jisoo: visual- but none of them is the official leader.

During their appearance on "Knowing Bros," Lisa explained that they thought a leader wasn't really needed, as they all have specific leadership characteristics in different areas.
However, it is said that BLACKPINK's leader could have been Jennie, who is the second-oldest member (after Jisoo).
TXT Yeonjun
TXT's official leader is Choi Soobin, who was chosen by Big Hit Music and the rest of the members after the leader evaluations. Actually, he is only the second-oldest member of the group. The team's oldest member is Yeonjun- and if TXT chose the leader based on age, he would have been selected.
But, Soobin surely fits the leader position. He isn't only kind and responsible, and he takes care of the members well.
ITZY Chaeryeong
ITZY Chaeryeong is another female K-pop idol who was supposed to be the leader of her own group. The reason is that she is the member with the longest training period (5 years). However, she is also the second-youngest member, so it is believed that this is why she wasn't picked to lead the team.

ITZY's leader is Hwang Yeji, and there's no doubt she perfectly suits the role. Instead of being authoritative, she's more friendly to the members.
Red Velvet Seulgi
Many know that Irene is Red Velvet's leader as she is the group's oldest member. But besides her, the other candidate to become the leader is Seulgi, who has the longest training period among the members. Hence, if Irene wasn't older than her, Seulgi would be Red Velvet's leader.
NCT 127 Johnny
Another male K-pop idol who was supposed to be the leader of his group is NCT 127, Johnny. When looking at the training periods of the NCT 127 members, Johnny trained the longest (9 years). However, Johnny was only added to NCT 127 in January 2017, six months after the subunit was launched in July 2016.

Finally, TWICE's leader is well-known to be Jihyo, the member who was a trainee for the longest time (10 years). Apart from her, the other potential group leader is Jeongyeon, who has the second-longest training period (5 years and eight months). Additionally, it is said that Jeongyeon had the second-most votes to be the leader.
