There are instances when K-pop dance moves are deemed inappropriate by the Korean Broadcasting System (or KBS) for different reasons. It's commonly due to being too sexy, but sometimes there are other reasons only artists would know.
Because of this, K-pop idols tend to change the choreography to be more fitting for young audiences.
Here are K-pop steps that were changed for being unsuitable for broadcast.
K-pop Dance Steps That Were Changed for Being 'Inappropriate'
BLACKPINK - 'Don't Know What to Do'
As soon as the music video for 4L's "Move" came out, there was a controversy over the members' revealing outfits and their sexual dance steps. Therefore, 4L ultimately had to change their entire choreography.
Sunmi - 'Full Moon'
In "Full Moon's" original choreography, Sunmi spreads her legs while sitting on a couch. This daring move was banned by KBS for being too sexual.
To amend this, Sunmi would change the move to only opening her legs from the knees down. Still sensual, but nothing too scandalous!
AOA - 'Mini Skirt'
During "Mini Skirt," the girls of AOA are seen unzipping a zipper at the side of their dresses to expose their thighs. As they do this, they wiggle their hips.
Though an iconic dance move, it was considered too suggestive. In live performances, the girls are still seen wiggling their hips, but the part where they unzip their dress was taken out.
VIXX - 'Voodoo Doll'
In the original choreography for VIXX's "Voodoo Doll," the group makes use of a staff to mimic a stabbing motion. Originally, Ken pretends to stab himself in the stomach with the staff, piercing through him and N's body.
The move was considered too violent for live broadcasts. During performances, Ken would instant slam the staff on the ground, and N would raise his hand in a dramatic fashion.
STELLAR - 'Marionette'
Fans actually prefer the changed dance rather than the original move!
In STELLAR's "Marionette," the choreography features a "butt scratching" move, which fans considered awkward. Music broadcasts found the move too scandalous, and STELLAR changed the choreography to them resting their arms on their lower backs instead.
