iPad 5 Release Rumors Persist Despite Absence In WWDC 2013 Keynote Address: Next-Gen iPad To Feature Ultra-Thin Design

iPad 5 release rumors are hitting a peak as Apple's Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) kicks off today, although the WWDC keynote address didn't introduce the iPad 5.

A market analyst from Citi predicted that Apple's iPad 5 could be released this fall. Citi Research analyst Glen Yeung has stated that Apple will release three iPads in the coming months: the iPad 5, iPad mini 2 and iPad mini with Retina Display, according to the US Daily Voice.

Yeung also predicted that once the iPad 5 is released this fall, the iPad 4 and iPad 2 will no longer be in production, which could shift Apple's pricing options.

The iPad 5 will take a note from iPad mini's thinness, light weight, and slim design, according to the Citi analyst.

He maintained that the iPad 5 would be released in the second half of 2013, despite case manufacturers Hard Candy and Gumdrop releasing iPad 5 cases to coincide with the WWDC 2013 event this week.

Yeung's prediction looks to be correct, as the iPad 5 wasn't mentioned in Apple CEO Tim Cook's keynote address, which focused on iOS 7.

"iOS 7 is the biggest change to iOS since the introduction of the iPhone," Cook declared in his introduction of the demonstration.

And the iOS interface, designed by Jony Ive, is definitely different. NBC News reported that the fake leather, wood grain and yellow notebook paper of iOS 6 is all gone in favor of a minimalistic design.

"We wanted to take an experience that people know very well and add to it," Ive explained through a video shown at the keynote event. "We see iOS 7 as defining an important new direction... and in many ways, a beginning."

So, although the WWDC 2013 hasn't yet revealed any information about the iPad 5, the free iOS 7 update to be released this fall for iPad 2 and later iPad models should provide an entirely new experience for Apple users.
