Simon Cowell Gets Egged on 'Britian's Got Talent' Finale by Former Contestant Natalie Holt; Publicity Stunt or Revolt? [Watch Video]

After viola player Natalie Holt stole the show by hurling eggs at Simon Cowell and other judges during the Britian's Got Talent (BGT) Finale, her motive behind the daring act is up for question.

The Telegraph reported in a Sunday article that Holt, also a former BGT contestant, egging the judges was an act of protest.

"I basically took a stand against people miming on television and against Simon and his dreadful influence on the music industry," said Holt.

According to Mirror TV, the egg protestor took to a guest blog on The Guardian this afternoon to stress that she didn't do it to gain publicity.

Nevertheless, Amanda Holt egging Simon Cowell became a trending topic for all media outlets.  After the talent show finale, the violist's Twitter account racked up 4,500 extra followers. The number has increased.

In 2012 Holt and her band, Raven Quartlet, were contestants for BGT in 2012.  In a blog post following their appearance on the show that was later deleted, Holt's bandmate Rachael Lander made a comment suggesting the groups desire to reach a larger audience.

Quoted by the Daily Mail, Lander wrote: "We had to acknowledge the grim truth, which was that Raven needed a bigger profile to get any kind of deal."

" We could get a load more gigs if we played to 15 million viewers, even if those viewers were of the opinion that a dog with a hula hoop constituted entertainment gold... We were uncomfortable that we were, by entering, complicit with the exploitation of the vulnerable to be humiliated in front of millions. But we had made ourselves publicity whores, we'd made our bed, we had to play."

Appearing as a backup singer for Richard and Adam Johnson's opera performance, Holt used that time to fire eggs at Simon and his fellow judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.

After the show she issued an apology to Richard and Adam for interrupting their performance.  She blamed her swift actions on anxiety.

"I was planning to do it once the song finished, but I got a bit nervous and went slightly early," Holt said.
