BTS Suga's parents originally didn't like his dream of becoming a K-pop idol. In fact, they had doubts about if it would be a successful career choice. There were even times when Suga wrote lyrics in secret but his parents would end up throwing the lyric sheets. It is said that they wanted him to be an office worker.

Fortunately, everything ultimately worked out, as BTS Suga's parents are now very supportive of him.

Red Velvet Wendy

Red Velvet Wendy joins the list of K-pop idols whose parents were against their dream of becoming singers. She was excellent in studies so her parents wanted her to put her focus on education rather than music. Despite her parents being opposed to it, she still centered her attention on music throughout high school. She eventually convinced her parents and so she was able to audition to become an idol.

BTS RM

BTS RM is another K-pop idol who was an excellent student. Notably, he was in the top 1% in Korea in terms of school grades. His parents learned how good he was at academics, so they were against his dream of becoming a singer and wanted him to find a stable job. Luckily, RM was able to win his parents over, and now they give their full support to their son.

While it wasn't revealed if her mom was opposed to her interest in music, STAYC J's mom actually wanted her to fail an audition so she would realize what the reality is like. J also mentioned that her mom thought that she was too loud, as she kept on singing instead of studying. Surprisingly, she ended up passing the audition and became a trainee.

Choi Yena

Before Choi Yena became a K-pop idol, her brother, Sungmin, was the first one to debut. He was part of the boy group SPEED. Sadly, SPEED disbanded just after two years of activities. Yena's parents didn't want the same scenario to happen to her, so they didn't want her to become an idol. Also, Yena had lymphoma as a child, so it's reasonable for her parents to be against her dream. But that didn't stop Yena from convincing her parents and eventually going after her dream.

Girls' Generation Tiffany

Girls' Generation Tiffany's father was against her decision to become a K-pop idol because he wanted her to pursue a career in a different field, such as business. But Tiffany still auditioned for SM Entertainment and became a trainee. Thankfully, she ended up getting his father's permission to be a singer and the rest is history.
