It also states the Xdinary Heroes fandom name meaning, explaining:

"Without villains, it means that heroes will not exist either. It is a symbiotic relationship that is essential to each other. Xdinary Heroes need their villains to exist."

While the word "villain" is commonly used to describe someone wicked and is often eradicated, Xdinary Heroes emphasized that their existence depends on their fans. And just like villains, fans will always be with the group in every path that they take.

The official account of the band also released the voting results showing "Villains" getting 33.2% of the votes. It defeated other options including Xynergy (25.9%), piXels (19.9%), Xer (9.1%), "♭" [flat] (6.3%) and ♭rose (5.6%).

Xdinary Heroes' Fandom Name Villains Earns Mixed Reactions

Immediately after the official announcement, numerous fans who are now called the Villains expressed their delight and were touched by the meaning. They are happy that Xdinary Heroes now has an exclusive name just for them, strengthening their connection.

However, some fans are displeased by the name. This is due to the fact that the word "Villain" itself is antagonistic. They believe that this name not only sounds unflattering but unfitting for a fandom who are actually supporting the group with all their hearts.

While the fandom name's meaning is already explained and people get the logic, even non-fans are wondering if this is really the best option after a year of waiting.

In K-pop, a fandom name is the identity of fans linking to their favorite groups; thus, it often takes much and careful consideration from both sides.

Some fans who heard this commented:

  • "Imagine you as a fan being called a villain."
  • "What's my fandom? I'm a villain."
  • "I'm a fan, but there's no way I will call myself a villain."

Another reason why fans are disappointed is that it contradicts Xdinary Heroes' concept.

Xdinary Heroes, comprised of six members, is a K-pop rock band launched by JYP Entertainment's sub-label STUDIO J in December 2021 with single, "Happy Death Day." Their name is a shortened term for "Extra Ordinary Heroes," depicting that "anyone can become a hero."

Now that fans are called Villains, they wonder if it still makes any sense, and some feel that they are being excluded.

  • "We should have been sidekicks instead if they want us to walk with them side by side."
  • "I'm just hoping that the plot is enemies to lovers."
