5 K-pop Idols Who Dislike Their Own Stage Name

Before a K-pop group makes their debut, one of the things that they need to plan is their members' stage names, which they will use indefinitely while promoting as an idol. While some of the idols do have a say in what they want to use as a stage name, there are some who aren't as lucky and has their stage names chosen by their company. Although many ended up loving their names, others have expressed their distaste for it at one point in their career.

With that, here are some of the K-pop idols who dislike their own stage name!

1. VIVIZ Umji

Umji, born Kim Yewon, initially made her debut as a member of GFRIEND under Source Music back in 2015. Although she is widely known as Umji now, and continues to promote with the name, she revealed she originally disliked the name and wanted to promote with a different one, like Yeon Doo or Ah Rang.

She disliked her name due to Umji meaning "thumb" in Korean. It is also likely that this name was chosen by Source Music.

2. BTS RM

BTS RM

Born Kim Namjoon, he originally made his debut with BTS under the stage name Rap Monster back in 2013. Sometimes shortened to Rap Mon, he revealed that he had a love-hate relationship with his stage name as he felt that it didn't hold an "incredible value" to him.

Although he initially used the stage name because it felt "cool," he finally changed it after several years to RM instead.

Olivia Hye's real name is Son Hyejoo, which is where the "hye" in her name came from. She has expressed her dislike for it, and has mentioned in the past that she prefers to be called by her real name Hyejoo instead, and often encourages fans to do so.

4. GOT7 Jinyoung

GOT7 Jinyoung

Jinyoung originally debuted under the stage name Jr., and later spelled as Junior, when he debuted with GOT7 in 2014. He was given the stage name of Junior as he shared the same full name with JYP Entertainment's founder and CEO, Park Jin Young (J.Y. Park), which literally made him a Park Jin Young junior. So it is pretty much a no-brainer as to why he disliked that stage name.

He ended up changing his stage name to his real name Jinyoung in 2016.

Weeekly Monday

Monday is a pretty unique stage name in K-pop. However, the Weeekly member has expressed her strong dislike for it in the past. Her reason being Monday is literally a day in a week. Not only that, but Monday seems to be the most disliked day by the public as it signals the start of a new week, or in this case, school or work. So Monday's dislike for her name is quite understandable!
