‘Falling Skies’ Season 3 Spoilers: American Revolution May Have Been Inspiration For Show

The third season of "Falling Skies" makes loose allusions to the American Revolutionary War and may have even been partly inspired by it, Entertainment Weekly reports.

While the cast of the TNT science fiction show were shooting scenes, director Greg Beeman wanted emphasis on an American flag that was on the set, asking crew members to unfurl the flag and direct the camera to it in the background.

"I want that American flag to furl," Beeman said on the set, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"Raise it really quickly so it catches the wind and flows real pretty."

Throughout the opening shots of several scenes, the American flag is subtly shown waving in the breeze, just enough to capture the attention of viewers while igniting feelings of revolutionary fervor.

Several scenes in the show are also based on the battles of the Americans against the British and the involvement of the French in the Revolutionary war, Entertainment Weekly also reports.

"[Similar to] the involvement of the French in the American Revolution, there's this sense of having an ally, knowing full well that their agenda may not be our agenda, that they might not have cared that much for us, but we're winning finally. What compromises are you willing to make? What are you willing to do in order to have a victory?" showrunner Remi Aubuchon told Entertainment Weekly.

"The Vohm appear to be humanitarian or whatever that would be in terms of their race. They appear to be free in the sharing of their technology with us. But is there another agenda lurking in the shadows that we don't know about?"

Beeman also mentioned that that imagery on the show is intended to manifest feelings of battling a foreign enemy on home territory and represents themes of the American Revolutionary War.
